The format allows for a stronger assimilation of the material, and concludes with the ability to feel all of the large and smaller segments of the pulse. Additionally, and uniquely, I explore SHL formulas and their gestural dynamics as a lens to understand pulse qualities. This leads to a two-fold learning process that brings greater clarity to both the findings of the pulse and their treatment.

Dr. Leon Hammer
(1925 - 2023)
Not a day goes by that I fail to recognize the gift this man bequeathed us in his life and work. He took his teacher’s admonition that “Chinese medicine is in the life” and truly plumbed its mysterious and ineffable depths. Far from psychologizing Chinese medicine, he rather discovered the tripartite intersections of body-mind-spirit. He once said that I was trying to convince him that everything he had ever said was embedded in the Shang Han Za Bing Lun somehow. He wasn’t entirely wrong. But what I was trying to do was reflect back to him the glorious leonine nobility of the mind and spirit stalking meaning in the vast savannahs of human expression and discovering the principles revealed when tracking the light of the Sun as it rises above the horizon of consciousness at the dawn of everything. May we all abide in such fire and may his memory travel through the transmission of his legacy.
